Summer Eating With FAAN!

Staying Safe on Summer Adventures
TAG member Melissa has stayed free of reactions during her summer adventures with careful advanced planning for each outing. It might take extra time, but as Melissa can tell you, it’s worth it.

Summer Fun
Summer is a time that most kids equate with being carefree. Kids with food allergies can have just as much fun as anyone else; they just need to remain vigilant about common summer scenarios such as barbecues and picnics. TAG member Caitlin discusses summer fun and safety in this essay.

My First Restaurant Experience
In this very personal essay, TAG member Tracy describes how she conquered her fears about dining out.

Restaurant Highs and Lows
TAG member Courtney learns that it really pays off to call ahead and do your research if you’re planning on staying with grandparents who dine out every night.

EZgreetings
FAANTeen Emily has created a website that sells singing grams to raise money for food allergy research. She recorded 100 grams to help celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other events. Visit her website to hear some samples.

Get Connected

There are now more opportunities to talk back. Share your comments on our new Facebook Community at www.facebook.com, search for food allergy and select “Pages” to become a fan of FAAN! You can also select the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network from the Causes application on both Facebook and MySpace.

Watch Out

Don't assume natural "health" foods found in organic markets or health food stores will be free from ingredients to which you are allergic. In fact, FAAN members have reported surprise ingredients in these types of specialty products. Always read the label.

talk back

I speak about my food allergies when I go out with friends, and I remind them that I have food allergies and can’t eat certain foods. By always checking the food, I show people the seriousness of the situation and educate them more about what the consequences are if I do eat a nut.
